Organisation culture-week 4

Visible aspects of culture I examined at curry's where the employees present themselves as determined well uniformed people, they do not hestitate to help and assure you on buying the right goods, and always present themselves with a positive attitude in their working environment. Some hiddin apsects might determine why they presnt themselves in this way, such as staff disciline and certain roles they need to fufill moreover the attitude they need to carry out as being part of a working team at curry's. They may receive commision on selling goods as a result of their hard work and determination as a an employee for curry's as a business. Handy argues that 'an inspired workplace will result in inspired workers and draws attention to the importance for work performance os the atmosphere, quality and style of buildings and offices.' (management and organisational behaviour, pg 278)

Handy definitions:

A power culture - is a result of the power influenced by the central figure in the organisation. This type of culture relies on trust , empathy and personal comunications. THis type of culture is often found in smaller organisations.

A role culture-~The follow up of rules and procedures in a business. I tis often found in this culture that the role and job descroption is often more important than the individual. The status of an indiviual in the business is the main source of power.

A task culture-Task culture mainly envolves around bringing together the right resources and people, in addition creating a unifying power to an organistaion, with people sharing an equal understanding and ability. THe infuluence in this culture is not about personal or postiion power but more on expert power of the knowledge that one has.

a person culture- a group of people come together to serve individuals within the organisation. A person culture tends to do their own thing leaving individulas with complete autonomy.

(Management and organisational behaviour, pg 722)

One of the difficulties of trying to classify culture into one of the four types described above, is that there is no say that an organisation may persue one type of culture and instead may be influenced by other factors in the different cultures leaving a mixture of cultures combined into one.

One company that I believe demonstrates role culture within their business is the BMW group, the company works hard to produce one of the top brand named cars worldwide. The culture of BMW works hard to bring together the right resources and right people for the different job roles that they need, and in conclusion continue to prodice amazing results in not only just cars but vast arrange of auto mobiles.

In conclusion I can see that different organisations and companies take on different cultures as there are different approaches available to follow within a business, moreover the right culture and attitude to have results in what way the organisation or company is successful.
