Managing Performance-week 21

My experience of an appraisal...

  • An appraisal I have had at work left me feeling appreciated and gave me an insight to how hard work can end in an end result of hard work given to a business or company. I was spoken to about a letter of appraisal a customer wrote to head office about me and my help as a service advisor and then after was rewarded with a gift of appreciation by my manager.

An affective mentor....

  • An affective mentor must have good people skills and a good knowledge of how to treat, work with and manage situations. To be affective in what they do, a mentor must know how to deal and accept ones needs and resolve any matters that may be affecting them, this could also be a helping hand in helping a person achieve a desired goal or set tasks.

My experiences of having a mentor...

  • An art teacher I had back in 6th form years, was someone who had been a mentor to me for quite a long period of time. For those two years that I found tough in 6th form with many distractions as a result of going through a bad patch and phase and also choosing a group of friends that were not the best of idols, who had the mentality of not caring and chose to take the 6th form years as a joke did not help.It was not until I got caught up and started to fall back in my work and my attitude, leaving my art teacher who actually became a friend to me pushed me to my potential that she knew I honestly had but was throwing it away felt it a shame to let me go down that route. Not only in art but also in my other subjects she chose to intervene and see if I was in 6th form on a daily basis so I did not fall behind. This person affected my life as she took the time to care and note that something was wrong and something had to be done, out of her own will she chose to stay back long hours just so I could get work done, moreover I also felt like I was treated differently to the class and saw that their was actually an outside friendship there in the end of it all she helped me maintain my focused attitude to strive and work for what I really wanted, and that was to complete 6th form and get accepted into a uni where I could make a fresh start.
