Teamworking-Week 13

An example of teamwork...

On one occasion where I worked as part of a team was when I was involved in a young enterprise project, during my 2 years at 6th form. We were successful in what we did as we pulled together as a team should moreover we used one another's different skills, took these and split the group, as a company or business would be split into those handling admin, the financial side, marketing, HR so on . I was apart of the human resource team myself but helped out in our weekly tasks we chose to make hoodies for the leavers in our year as well as those who were leaving year 10. Relating our success to the different theory approaches I thought the way in which we worked was ordered and alot of complications were settled and we had a main manager in charge. I can say we worked worked well as a team overall and were a very effective team all together as we made a number of sales, and broke even moreover we even got our money back that we put in plus a profit.

Relating Tuckman's approach to group development;

(forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning)

the group I worked with for my first people and organisation's group assignment, did not get past the second stage effectively enough to move on to next in order for the group as a whole to be successful. The first stage of forming, as individuals we passed, however our different individual behaviours conflicted resulting in us not being able to get passed the second stage of storming. Therefore as a result relating to Tuckman's theory, we failed as a group that developed at all as a result of personality clashes and behaviours. We needed to experience all four stages before we achieved any maximum effectiveness.

The Times Top 100 companies to work for, review 2 companies where teamwork has been identified as a major contributory factor to their success...

Teamwork from Specsavers can be said to be driven by factors within the business such as

'employees can also be awarded up to £500 for ideas taken up by the business.' (http://business.timesonline.co.uk)

Employees have more fun with their colleagues than at all but one other company on the list, winning it with an impressive 90% positive score in a staff survey. In fact, when it comes to good working relationships with colleagues, Inventive Leisure ranks ninth overall. Staff get a buzz out of working with people in their team (76%) and say people go out of their way to help each other (77%). This is a perfect example of good team work and a happy working environment where staff pull together to produce a successful working, positive team.
